The Electromagnetic Geophysics Laboratory (EGL) at Georgia Institute of Technology specializes in electromagnetic (EM) imaging of Earth’s interior using magnetotelluric (MT) and controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) methods. EGL members are working towards integrating geophysical, geochemical and geological data sets to improve our understanding of regional scale geodynamic and tectonic processes.
Areas of EGL interest include (but are not limited to):
- Marine geophysics
- EM and seismic methods for subsurface imaging
- Geophysical inversion of EM data
- Fluid & magmatic processes at plate boundaries
- Structure of the lithosphere-asthenosphere system
Past and current study sites include the Cocos oceanic plate; the East African Rift at Lake Kivu, Rwanda; the Central America subduction margin; the Hikurangi subduction margin offshore North Island, New Zealand; and the Alaska-Aleutian subduction margin.
